Excitement and Teamwork and Future Friends

I would like to see everyone involved in both clubs and the class try to submit their contact information which I will now refer to as our list of good friends. I was thinking about what Professor Goze said in class.

Each of us WILL eventually be saved (career-wise) by someone else sitting next to us in this class, or by someone we meet along the path we have begun here. That makes being friends and colleages a little more important, special, and relevant to all our success.

You may not see it this way, but it is definitely food for thought.

Classified Ads - A followup

In an earlier post I mentioned starting a classified ads section. We have put the idea on the back burner as we have lost most of the donated equipment we had in storage. The campus has been under construction for some time and one contractor accidentally caused a major flood in the building where we, and other departments, store various items.

Subscriptions bouncing

In case you aren't aware, we have a subscription system for content posted to the site. By default we automatically subscribe members to job postings. Any member can subscribe to an assortment of content by type, author, or a specific content item. When content is added or updated, an email is sent out to the member's account email address.

A small number of members are using Yahoo email addresses and those subscriptions are being rejected. So in those cases, you aren't receiving any updates about your subscriptions, primarily the most recent job opening posted to the site.

New Classified Ads section

I've created a new section of the site called Classified Ads the purpose of which is to help support the SMPTE Chapter 11 organization and the Broadcast TV Engineering program. The program at Napa Valley College doesn't get a lot of monetary support from the college for new equipment or repairs to old equipment. A lack of state of the art equipment means the students won't be exposed to current technology. Limited funds to repair old equipment means that only limited repair efforts are possible for the students and can frustrate the learning process.

Personal Pictures

Just so you know, we've upped the maximum dimensions and upload size of pictures attached to a user account. These images can now be up to 125x125 pixels and 60 kilobytes in size. This image should be a tasteful picture of yourself. Remember, potential employers can see your profile and image in posts and comments.

BBQ Event

Okay, at the meeting we decided to host a BBQ to start raising funds.

Chicken, ribs, and vegetable shishkabobs will be our main items.
The sides will be potato salad or coleslaw. Drinks will also be available.

The event is to take place three weeks from now. So around Sept. 17th or 19th.
It will be between 11:00 and 2:00pm in the NVC Quad.
We are going to try to rent a BBQ from the school, but let us know if someone can bring a large grill.

So far:
Micheal is going to do the grilling
Nick will be our cashier

Resumes

The old site had an active resume listing, we've now rebuilt that feature. Active resumes can be found under the Active Resumes link in the main menu at the top of the site. The original page used JavaScript and didn't expose resumes to search engines. This obviously was both good and bad, good in that a person's resume information, public or private, wasn't exposed; bad in that the purpose of a resume is to get people to see it.
